Particle distribution functions at the plasma sheet boundary
Abstract
The Liouville theorem is used to obtain particle distribution functions at the plasma sheet boundary in the magnetosphere. It is shown that, in the recovery phase, only earthward-directed fluxes should be observable in the boundary layer of the plasma sheet. The effect of possible slow bending deformations of the sheet is also considered.
