The Free-electron Laser
Abstract
A brief introduction to the principle of the free-electron laser is given. The radiation wavelength and the equation of motion for the electrons are derived. The difference between spontaneous and stimulated radiation is explained and compared with a conventional laser mechanism. Improvements and future developments in the free electron laser are discussed.
