Features of laser sounding of atmosphere along horizontal and slightly inclined paths over a water surface
Abstract
The contribution of atmospherically scattered light reflected by a water surface on the output profiles of the lidar receiving optics is investigated. The analysis is performed for a lidar of the following parameters: divergence angle of 0.0005 rad, receiving optics viewing angle (Omega) of 0.0125 rad, receiving lens area of 0.07 sq m, and transmitter/receiver optical axis displacement of 0.25 m. Large distortions were observed for horizontal light paths less than 10 m above the surface and for inclined paths with inclination angles less than Omega/2.
