Friction on a plate in the vicinity of the stagnation point of an axisymmetric jet
Abstract
Surface friction coefficients are determined experimentally for the case of a high negative pressure gradient in the vicinity of the stagnation point of an axisymmetric jet with a turbulence of 0.2-0.8 percent at the nozzle exit section. For the range of jet turbulence parameters investigated (Reynolds number at the nozzle exit section, 10,000-100,000; relative distance between the nozzle exit section and the obstacle, 2-10), jet turbulence is shown to result in a 30-40 percent increase in friction relative to laminar flow. Analytical expressions providing an adequate description of the experimental data are proposed.
