Frequency and polarisation scaling of microwave attenuation during rainfall
Abstract
Measurements are presented from eastern Canada of the polarization-dependent ratio of microwave attenuation due to rainfall for vertical and horizontal linear polarizations, and of the frequency-dependent ratio of attenuation for a given polarization. The exponent of the usual power law of frequency scaling of attenuation is 1.93 + or - 0.15 (SD) in the 11-17 GHz frequency range.
