Ultraviolet and Optical Observations of the Intermediate Polar 3A:0729+103
Abstract
The Ariel V X-ray source 3A 0729 + 103 was observed by IUE at 1200 to 3200A, and by quasi simultaneous optical spectrophotometry at 5300 to 7000 A. The overall energy distribution is similar to that of other intermediate polars, but reaches a maximum at 1200A. Temperature = 60,000 K, as opposed to reported values of 150,000 to 200,000 K for other polars. This is due to a smaller ratio of the outer to the inner radius of the disk (17, as opposed to 50 to 80 for other polars).
