CaD systems for electronic component design reviewed
Abstract
The need for computer aided systems for electronic component design is reviewed. The item to be designed determines the process technology to be used, i.e., the design methods and technology. These methods and technology determine the requirements to be met by the software technology, which in turn is closely associated with the hardware technology, the quality of which together with the software technology determines to a great extent the quality of communication between the designer and the CAD system, and therefore the effectiveness of the design (interactive communication: menu and manipulation techniques). In accordance with the state of the art of highly integrated circuitry, an electronic device as an item to be designed must be viewed as a system whose major components are printed circuit boards and panels, as well as integrated circuits including the necessary software. Programming techniques, cost factors and ergonomic considerations are discussed.
