The behavior of an optically active substance in the expanded Dicke model
Abstract
It is shown that the behavior of an optically active substance in a quantum system of the laser type is qualitatively identical to the behavior of nonequilibrium chiral system of the chemical kind that are capable of a spontaneous loss of mirror symmetry. This finding suggests the possibility of using systems of the laser type as macroscopic detectors of weak asymmetric influences.
