Pulse generation by a solid-state laser with a self-induced amplitude-phase grating in the active medium
Abstract
The lasing dynamics of solid-state lasers is analyzed with allowance for the nonlinearity of the refraction index of the active medium at the field frequency. The results of the numerical solution of the corresponding system of equations are found to be in good agreement with experimentally observed effects of the self-modulation of the resonator Q-factor in pulsed ruby lasers and certain types of continuously pumped solid-state lasers. It is concluded that self-induced amplitude-phase gratings have a noticeable effect on the lasing kinetics of lasers with active media whose refraction index depends on the inverted population at the lasing frequency.
