Study of the mixing layer and its coherence from the point of view of two-dimensional turbulence
Abstract
The analysis of the dynamics of large coherent structures in the mixing layer in the case of two-dimensional turbulence, by direct numerical simulation and with the help of an EDQNM stochastic model, is considered. The statistical predictability theory is used to study a possible three-dimensionality of the coherent structures. An evolutionary intermittent scheme for the mixing layer is proposed, and a new coherent structure is formulated by the mean velocity shear.
