Analysis of the effect of the correlation properties of nonuniform brightness noise on the covariance matrix of image-registration errors
Abstract
It is shown that the transition from white to colored noise leads to an increase in the variance of image-registration errors in correlation-extremum systems. The maximum condition of error variance is shown to be the coincidence of the noise correlation properties with the correlation properties of image-brightness gradients. Conditions for the decorrelation of registration errors with respect to angle, scale, and location are derived.
