Supernova remnants in the Magellanic Clouds. III.
Abstract
As part of a continuing study of supernova remnants in the Magellanic Clouds, narrow-band optical images were obtained of seven SNR candidates in the LMC selected on the basis of radio and/or X-ray observations. Four of the candidates are confirmed as new SNRs. The object 0536-692 appears to be a 'superbubble' resulting from one or more supernovae and the stellar winds from the large OB stellar association, NGC 2044, within its interior. The latest results bring the total number of SNRs with optical identifications in the Large Magellanic Cloud to 32.
