Speckle interferometry and new possibilities in binary star research.
Abstract
It is noted that angular measurements can be obtained with a precision of 0.0001 arcsec using speckle interferometry. This method adds new points to the empirical mass-luminosity relation through the direct resolution of different types of binaries using large telescopes. Digital speckle-interferometry studies of binary stars with the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Soviet Academy of Sciences are described.
