Measurement of magnetic fields in flocculi from the polarization of solar radio emission
Abstract
A theory of the formation of the polarization of radio bremsstrahlung in an atmosphere with nonuniform distributions of temperature and magnetic field strength is constructed. The possibility of reconstructing the magnetic field distribution from spectral observations of flocculi is evaluated. It is shown that the results of observations of the radio emission of flocculi do not fit into the framework of a plane-layered model chromosphere with a monotonic height distribution of electron temperature, requiring a significant reexamination of the well-known simple estimate of the magnetic field strength in flocculi.
