A radio-quiet emission-line jet in the type 2 Seyfert galaxy NGC 7682.
Abstract
Narrowband imaging in Hα+[N II] shows a jet-like feature emerging from the nucleus of NGC 7682. The feature is 10arcsec in apparent length and less than 1arcsec.5 in width. For H0 = 50, the length projects to 3 kpc, and the Hα luminosity of the jet is about 1039erg s-1. Spectroscopy shows weak emission most likely due to [N II] at +275 km s-1 relative to the nucleus. VLA-B maps at 6 cm show no emission from the feature above ≡1 mJy. A consistent picture may be made of this as a "fossil" jet now seen as a string of H II regions formed of entrained interstellar matter after an earlier radio jet turned off ≡107years ago, representing either conventional (OB-star powered) regions or cooling jet matter.
