A prediction of particle behavior via the Basset-Boussinesq-Oseen equation
Abstract
An analytical investigation is conducted for the motion of marking particles in a viscous fluid during the onset of turbulence. After solving the Lagrangian equation of motion under the simplifying assumptions that (1) the flow does not experience high rates of acceleration, and (2) that the density of the marker material is not substantially less than the fluid density, the closed form solution for particle motion is examined for the case of Rayleigh-Benard flow.
