BX MON as a long-period eclipsing binary system.
Abstract
The present spectroscopic observation results suggest that BX Mon is a long period eclipsing binary system that consists of a non-Mira M5 to 6III star and a hot component; the latter is brightened by a mass-accretion process. In view of an apparent periodic variation of the accretion rate onto the hot component, this binary system may have an eccentric orbit. Attention is given to the discrepancies between this model and the light variation of BX Mon in the 1890-1940 period.
