Herbig-Haro objects and FU Orionis eruptions. The case of HH 57.
Abstract
Optical spectroscopy, CCD images and infrared observations of a newly brightened star next to HH 57 show that the star is a fifth member of the FU Ori class. Similar observations of the star associated with HH 101 indicate that this star may also once have undergone an FU Ori eruption. Both HH 57 and HH 101 are situated at the front of elongated bubble structures emanating from their associated stars. A small nebula extends from the opposite side of the HH 57 star, suggesting a bipolar outflow. Arguments are presented in support of speculations that HH objects may be powered by FU Ori eruptions.
