Surface photometry of galaxies extended to Z = 0.59.
Abstract
The authors report a method for the determination of characteristic radii for distant galaxies. The method has been applied to the most dominant galaxies in the clusters A180 (z = 0.135), A370 (z = 0.373), and PKS 0116+082 (z = 0.59). CCD-observations in good seeing have been used, and an accurate point spread function has been determined. Characteristic radii have been obtained by convolution of elliptical galaxy models with the PSF. The results have been entered in the angular size-redshift diagram.
