The development of a submillimeter wave carcinotron operating in the frequency range from 850 to 1000 GHz
Abstract
An operating carcinotron device was assembled. It generates a minimal output power of 1 mW between 880 to 990 GHz. The maximum output power of 2.3 mW is reached at several points between 910 and 940 GHz. A mix-matrix tungsten-osmium cathode of 0.5 mm diameter was used. The high voltage range is between 4.9 kV and 8.8 kV, and the total power consumption is 192 W. Total weight 8.2 kg. The cooling is obtained by a 1.5 l/min water flow. For such a frequency range, the limiting factors of the output are the geometrical regularity and the quality of the slow wave structure manufacturing.
