Study of turbulent wake behind a bluff body by vortex method
Abstract
The diffusion of vorticity in an eddy and in the process of amalgamation of two eddies is studied using the vortex method. Special attention is given to the relationship between the effect of molecular or turbulent viscosity and the effect of implicit numerical errors or randomness explicitly applied to the motion of the point vortices. The computation confirms that the diffusion process in the vortex motion simulates very well that which occurs in turbulent vortical flow. The results are used to investigate the flow past a bluff body.
