On the statistical vorticity structure theory of homogeneous turbulent shear flow
Abstract
This paper is concerned with the vortex structure in a homogeneous turbulent shear flow. It is shown that its mean motion must be a plane motion except the uniform irrotational distortion flow. In small Reynolds number flows, the exact solutions of the vortex structure for the uniform irrotational distortion, uniform unidirectional shear and uniform rotation flow are obtained. It is found for the first time that the double velocity correlation of the uniform rotation flow is the same as that of the isotropic turbulence.
