Irregularity, regularity and singularity of turbulence
Abstract
The concepts of turbulence and chaos in fluid systems and the relationship between them are explored in an introductory review. Topics examined include the general and specific usage of the two terms, the deterministic irregularity of turbulence, the statistical regularity of turbulence (self-similarity and similarity due to analytical theories), the inviscid singularity of turbulence, and the structural regularity of turbulent shear flows.
