About the trend of pressure in shock reflection processes
Abstract
The present investigation is concerned with the shock reflection pressure observed when a shock is reflected at a plane surface under different angles of incidence or at a curved surface. Experiments involving the use of a conventional air/air shock tube were conducted. Attention is given to the background of shock wave reflection and pressure values which were either directly measured with the aid of gauges or determined on the basis of a visualization procedure. It was found that the shock front reflection pressure of a shock wave incident on an incident flat wall (wedge) increases if the angle of inclination approaches the critical angle at which transition from regular reflection to irregular reflection occurs.
