Transition to turbulence in a spherical gap
Abstract
The present investigation deals with the transition to turbulence and the behavior of turbulent flow in spherical gaps. Differential initial and boundary conditions result in different routes of the transition from laminar to turbulent flows. The observed bifurcations are visualized and described. An analysis of the onset of turbulence is given for the case of a 'sudden-acceleration' of the inner sphere.
