Periodic turbulent shear flows
Abstract
The results of Ramaprian and Tu (1982) on fully developed periodic turbulent water flows in pipes are summarized and compared with those obtained for timemean zeropressuregradient periodic turbulent boundary layers in the periodicflow water tunnel at the University of Iowa. The data are presented in graphs and characterized. At high frequency and amplitude, small but detectable timemeanvelocity effects with similar Stokeslayer thickness and nearwall phase angle about 10 deg are observed in both regimes.
