Attitude reference using a heterodyne type fiber rate sensor
Abstract
An experimental set for an optical heterodyne fiber gyro that has good linearity for a wide range of rotation rates has been constructed and tested. Its sensitivity is improved by direct noise frequency modulation applied to the light source of a laser diode. A short time resolution of about 5 deg/hr has been achieved. The sensor has a frequency output which is independent of the variation of the light source intensity.
