A study of the near-wake behind an axisymmetric body
Abstract
The near wake generated by the separation of flow behind a blunt-based axisymmetric cylinder in subsonic flow is studied in detail. A novel method for the prediction of the flow field is presented, and a comparison with available experimental data is made. A detailed empirical analysis of the influence of the boundary-layer thickness and base mass transfer on the near wake at M = 0.11 is presented. In particular, the influence on near-wake centerline pressure distributions and wake development is studied. The influence of wake shape on the near wake is theoretically investigated.
