The Search And Rescue Satellite Aided Tracking (SARSAT) experiment. Presentation of CNES processing for the SARGOS project: Context and orbit processing
Abstract
Software for the SARGOS satellite project which locates radio buoys from ships or aircraft in distress is described. The software is used for orbit calculations of NOAA-8 satellite. It calculates actual position and predicts satellite position for 1 1/2 days ahead. It is accurate to within 1 km along track, 0.5 km perpendicular to orbital plane, and 0.3 km radially. The buoys are located to within 5 km in 89% of cases, which is better than the specification.
