The ERS-1 active microwave instrumentation
Abstract
The main element of the ERS-1 payload is the active microwave instrumentation, providing for three modes of operation: all-weather finite-resolution SAR imaging; measurement of the directional wave spectrum of the ocean; and measurement of the wind field over the ocean. The technical performance, the measurement principles, and some applications of the active microwave instrumentation are described.
