On the characteristics of the receiver of an MTI radar
Abstract
Some sources of error in rainfall measurements using the Moving Target Indicator (MTI) weather radar are discussed. Emphasis is given to the deviation of the measured signal amplitude distribution from the Rayleigh distribution due to quantization error. The nonlinearity of the radar receiver in the weak input signal region is also discussed. A technique for correcting the quantization error using the ratio of the averaged mean measured signal amplitude to the true mean amplitude, is described.
