Large aperture electro-optical switch
Abstract
A transparent plasma electrode formed in low pressure ionized gas which acts as a conductive coating to allow the uniform charging of the optical faces of an electro-optic material is discussed. Experiments with large aperture Pockels cells up to 27 cm are in progress. It is shown that a variation of the preionization current changes the initial plasma resistance which effects the voltage and optical risetimes. A model for this dependence and scaling with aperture is discussed.
