Optimization of a spherical reflector antenna
Abstract
The paper presents results of a numerical simulation of the characteristics of a spherical reflector antenna with a feed shifted along the focal axis of the reflector. The optimal location of the feed with respect to the reflector apex is determined for different antenna directivities; dependences of gain losses for an axisymmetric aperture on the focal ratio are examined; and the effect of the correction of feed location on the directivity is shown. An analysis of the energy relationships leads to a new criterion for the optimal location of the feed, which makes it possible to enhance the potential of spherical reflector antennas (especially for short-focus reflectors).
