Millimeter-range scanning antenna
Abstract
The design of a millimeter-range scanning antenna on the basis of surface-to-bulk wave conversion is considered. An analysis is made of an electrodynamic structure consisting of a planar dielectric waveguide (PDW) and a periodic structure in the form of a reflection-type diffraction grating whose generatices form an arbitrary angle with the PDW axis. Conditions for the emission of bulk waves into free space are considered, and expressions defining the directivity of these waves are analyzed. The near-field amplitude distribution of the electrodynamic structure is investigated, and it is shown that this structure can be used to design efficient antennas with a high angular sensitivity.
