Concerning the excitation of a planar dielectric waveguide
Abstract
The excitation of a planar dielectric waveguide by a linear one is studied experimentally. Two excitation arrangements are considered: (1) coupled linear and planar dielectric waveguides and (2) a horn-parabolic transition from the linear waveguide to the planar one. The measurements were carried out in the millimeter range, which made possible a detailed analysis of the field structure. A comparison of the excitation arrangements showed that the horn-parabolic transition is characterized by a particularly wide band, high efficiency, and small size.
