Thermal sensitivity of sensing coils for fibre gyroscopes
Abstract
Dynamic temperature variations in a gyro sensing coil were investigated experimentally, using a fiber coil prepared by pulling the fiber through a nozzle containing a UV-curable acrylate and coiling under UV illumination. Adhesive heating foil was used on the outer and inner side of the coil to cover half of its circumference. Symmetrical heating of the coil from the inner and outer sides drastically reduced the rotation rate error. A theoretical model was developed which describes the observed behavior. The model can be used to study system properties resulting from unsymmetry of the arrangement and to select the thermal data for the plotting materials for best suppression of the thermally induced errors.
