Fiber optic gyro with digital data processing
Abstract
A digital measurement system for a fiber-optic gyro is demonstrated. Features of the system include a 14.4-MHz oscillator, a superluminescent diode light source, photodetector, fiber coil, phase modulator, 16-bit analog/digital converter, and a 16-bit desktop computer for readout. There is no restriction for measuring high rotation rates if a suitable algorithm is applied. The nonlinearity and the ambiguity of the gyro output are circumvented.
