Wavelength encoded optical fibre sensors
Abstract
A system of optical fiber sensors is described in which the wavelength of the transmitted light conveys information about the state of the transducer. The system consists of two parts - an optical transducer (in effect, a narrowband transmission filter in which a variation in the parameter to be measured causes a variation in the transmitted wavelength) and an analyzer to convert the wavelength into a suitable (electronic) form. Engineered prototypes have been developed and the system may well prove to be acceptable, convenient and cost-effective.
