The convection-projection approach towards the solution of Euler equations
Abstract
Some aspects of the convection-projection approach are presented to contribute to the construction of numerical schemes of upwind type. Links of this concept with a weak formulation based on characteristic variables are explored, and allow the generation of various schemes for scalar conservation laws. In particular, a large time step method consisting of a generalization of the method of Godunov is presented. In one and two dimensions, the solution of Euler equations by Lagrangian-Eulerian schemes is proposed. The interpretation of these schemes in terms of the convection-projection approach may lead to their being better understood, and to new developments.
