The TEXUS flight results on convective flows and heat transfer in simulated floating zones
Abstract
On TEXUS 9 sounding rocket flight, a cylindrical liquid bridge between 2 circular disks was created and 1 of the disks then heated with an assigned temperature time profile. The experiment collected data on the thermofluidynamic fields that prevail at high Peclet number and unsteady thermal conditions. Thermocouple failure caused problems in heat transfer data reduction, and in numerical correlation.
