Broadly tunable VUV radiation generated by frequency mixing in gases
Abstract
Experimental results are presented concerning the application of frequency tripling and frequency mixing to the generation of tunable VUV radiation in gaseous laser media. Attention is given to the generation of tunable VUV radiation using rare gas lasers, Rhodamine dye lasers, and Nd-YAG lasers. Estimates of the tuning ranges obtainable by frequency tripling and mixing are given in a table. It is shown that, due to the narrow linewidth and the precise frequency control of CW laser systems, frequency mixing or tripling can significantly enhance the resolution of spectroscopic measurements in VUV range.
