A space shuttle experiment for future time transfer and navigation systems
Abstract
The design of Navex, a clock-synchronization and one-way-ranging experiment to be flown on the first German Spacelab mission in October, 1985, is presented and illustrated with diagrams, drawings, and a table of signal parameters. Navex aims include synchronization accuracy 10 nsec and ranging accuracy 30 m. The hardware, technical concept, and data-reduction procedures are described; the operation of the ground network is explained; and the Navex completion schedule and organizational structure are shown.
