Concept of complete optimization of UHF ground terminal and mobile satellite parameters
Abstract
Communication at 800 MHz between mobile terminals and other users via a dedicated satellite has been considered for the U.S. and Canada. A mobile satellite (Msat) system is planned, to serve some 23 thousand users, prior to an operational system serving all projected users. The satellite is to be launched in a geostationary orbit in 1988. It is pointed out that the technical and economic feasibility of a mobile satellite system involving hundreds of thousand of users requires optimization at the planning stage, of the space as well as the ground segments. The present investigation has the objective to outline the concept of complete optimization of the 800 MHz ground terminal and mobile satellite parameters. The principle of ground terminal optimization is discussed along with some typical results.
