Investigation of the electron component of the solar wind.
Abstract
Electron velocities in the solar wind are studied on the basis of measurements carried out on the Prognoz-7 spacecraft in November 1978. An anisotropic function of the distribution of electron velocities is derived to characterize the time variations of gasdynamic solar wind parameters, as well as variations in the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF). Some possible physical mechanisms for the exospheric origin of a superthermal electron component in the electron distribution function are discussed.
