Characteristics of absorption and frequency filtration of ULF electromagnetic waves in the ionosphere
Abstract
The method of interpreting the results of the problem of vertical propagation of ULF waves through the inhomogeneous magneto-active Earth's ionosphere, treated by means of the method of R-T coefficients, is expanded. The characteristics of transmissivity, reflectiveness and absorption in a limited ionospheric layer are derived. With the aid of the characterisics, which respect the relation between the wave generated at the Earth's surface and the total wave above the considered ionospheric layer, it is possible to study the frequency dependence of the absorption of electromagnetic energy and the frequency-selective amplitude filtration of waves in this layer. This method is another suitable aid in the wave diagnostics of the ionosphere and lower magnetosphere in relation to the generation of geomagnetic pulsations at the Earth's surface and in the magnetosphere.
