Electrochemical methane sensor
Abstract
A method and instrument including an electrochemical cell for the detection and measurement of methane in a gas is discussed. The method operates by the oxidation of methane electrochemically at a working electrode in a nonaqueous electrolyte at a voltage about 1.4 volts vs R.H.E. (the reversible hydrogen electrode potential in the same electrolyte), and the measurement of the electrical signal resulting from the electrochemical oxidation.
