Simulation-aided design of the Italsat satellite regenerative transmission channel
Abstract
Six regenerative repeaters will be embarked onboard the Italian preoperational satellite Italsat. The design of this payload working at 20/30 GHz, utilizing CQPSK modulation and SS-TDMA access scheme, is being performed with the help of simulation. The optimum characteristics of the digital channel have been derived using the TOPSIM III computer simulation program, developed by Turin Polytechnic, using time-domain representation of signals. The presented results regard also the sensitivity to TWTA characteristics and the impact on the system degradation due to filter and modem specifications.
