Plans for direct broadcasting satellite systems in Latin America
Abstract
Attention is given to the direct broadcasting satellite systems planned by the Latin American countries, as approved by the June 1983 Regional Administrative Radio Conference, but with emphasis to the specific impact of these determinations on the television system of Venezuela. For instance: the Venezuelan system consists of one satellite position with 16 channels for the national system and another, again with 16 channels, for the Andean system. These 16 channels, however, are simultaneously assigned to the five countries of the Andean group, and it has been left to future agreements to determine which specific channels will be used by Venezuela exclusively and which will be used for common, supranational programs.
