A linearized 4 GHz, wideband FET power amplifier for communication satellites
Abstract
The design and testing of a 3.5-W FET power amplifier (PA) for 3.7-4.2-GHz operation in communications satellites are reported. The device comprises a four-stage single-ended FET PA, a single-bridge predistortion linearizer, and a CUK-converter electronic power conditioner. Functional drawings, photographs, tables of performance characteristics, and graphs of test results are provided. The prototype PA weighs 1.1 kg and operates at 10-40 C with maximum gain 40 dB and efficiency 26 percent.
