Automated monitoring of satellite carriers
Abstract
The satellite carrier monitoring system (SCMS) currently in use in the Westar system is characterized. The primary components of the SCMS are the central monitoring system (comprising signal-control system, computer subsystem, and spectrum analyzer) and the (passive) remote monitoring system; the SCMS functions include spectrum surveillance, detection of spurious signals, multipath-amplitude modulation, and satellite-performance measurements. The SCMS validation procedures, measurements, operational modes (automatic, manual, file-preparation, and off-line), alarms, reports, and files are described in detail.
